Guides for making the switch from the iPhone to Android smartphones can be found with a quick Web search. But it's not often readers will spot one from the chairman of Google.
Eric Schmidt is using his Google+ profile to promote the company's popular operating system through a four-step guide for transitioning away from the iPhone.
Naturally, Schmidt praises the latest wave of Android devices for its larger screens and more intuitive interfaces. "Like the people who moved from PCs to Macs and never switched back, you will switch from iPhone to Android and never switch back as everything will be in the cloud, backed up, and there are so many choices for you," writes Schmidt.
The guide takes users through the process of importing contacts, music and photos from an iPhone to Android device, which involves connecting to iCloud and services such as Gmail and Google Music Manager.
Google's Android operating system has been a dominant force in the smartphone industry. IDC says Android commands an 81% market share based on worldwide shipments. Apple is second with nearly 13%.
