I don't plan on having a big tank also. Also besides starter fish I have a question do the lamp + filter use a lot of electricty because I already have computer monitor & tower & modem & router hooked up. trying to keep it low

I know betta fish, I was thinking a sucker fish also, What else?

For the goldfish, the lamp and the filter does not use a lot of electricity, even though you are suppose to leave the filter on. The lamp for the goldfish tank is optional.

For the Betta, it requires a filter, and a water heater. The water in the betta tank must be maintain at a certain temperature which can use a lot of electricity.

Betta fish, definately...especially if you're using a 5 gallon tank or so. Sucker fish, depends on the type. Common Plecos (most common sucker fish) usually get really big (up to 2 ft sometimes) and will not be good for a small tank. Rubber-lipped plecos, clown plecos, and otocinclus are good "sucker" fish for a small tank (5 gallons and larger).
How big of a tank are you wanting? Also if you're planning on plugging it in on the same wall as the computer/tower/modem/router, it just might be too much electricity use.
