I am having fusion surgery this Thursday and would like to know if anyone can recommend a good shoe to be worn afterward? The satin sheet idea is a great one! I'm going to go get those now. I just picked up a grabber today, too. All that's left are the shoes. Thanks. Nancy

Any good sturdy shoe that you can put on and off without having to touch it is great. I wore my moccasin type slippers for almost three months, even when I went out someplace, until I finally bit the bullet and went to the shoe store with my grabber. I dropped shoes that looked possible onto the floor. If I could put it on, walk comfortably in it, and get it back off without ever having to lean over, it was a candidate. The ones I got are still my favorites now, two+ years later. No ties, no velcro, just slip on, but not too loose. If you can get them ahead of time, that would be much better!

(Take me with a grain of salt. I have a long fusion, 14 vertebrae, so I will always have a bit of a strain to put on and tie shoes. But fresh from surgery, this is a good idea for anyone.)

I'm glad you're thinking ahead. It will make your recovery that much easier! Do keep in touch via the board and let us know how you're doing, both before and after your surgery.

One day at a time...

I didn't have a fusion, but I did have a 2 level failed microdiscectomy. I found the Ugg brand slip on shoes they have work great, they stay on, you don't wear socks with them and they are comfortable than ANYTHING you but them one size smaller than what you wear.

There are many good shoe out there for help....if your going to be a good walker afterwarRAB then I would recommend something on the higher end of nike running shoes or even the Asics.....But BlueAtlas said it best...get something comfy and very easy to put on.....this is my only problem at this point is getting my darn shoes on....but some that are good for both home and a quick trip to the store will be great(UGGS)....As you may know by now walking will be the most important thing post-op for recovery.....new shoes cause a period of getting used to so if you have a broke in pair I would go with them....the new have grabby soles and can cause small sturables.....ouch!

My mom bought me some cheapy slippers at wal-mart with the memory type sole....I use those the most for kicken around home.

SounRAB silly but you will see!:dizzy:

I wish you the best and good luck on Thursday!

I had a fusions on Dec. 29th - and I have to agree with BlueAtlas - slip on shoes work the best. You'll want ones that keep your feet warm, supported and have grips on the bottom. Go to a shoe store - right now slip-on moccasins are very fashionable, and comfy .... I'm still wearing mine daily.

Good luck with your fusion! A small bit of advice from me: make sure the remote has fresh batteries! T.V will be your friend, even if you weren't a "T.V person" before.

Take care!

Oh and I read on the less stress around the house post on here someone made a long shoe horn, you prob can find those elastic no lace sneakers for when you go walking and use that shoe horn contraption they made- check out that sticky post on this forum it's in there.

Good luck!

I LOVE my Crocs Mammoths for around the house. I see lots of people wearing them outside too...I personally don't wear them out of my house (mainly because mine are PINK...lol) because I use mine as house slippers. My foot doc recommended them because I have plantar fasciitis and he wants me wear something somewhat supportive on my feet at all times. They're warm and cozy, slip on and off easily, and are SO comfortable I often don't want to take them off.

As for shoes to wear to work or going out...I wear Danskos. Again...very supportive, high quality, and most of their product line are "clog" type shoes. Check ***REMOVED***, and you'll see hundreRAB of positive reviews on Danskos from people that have problems including back, hip, and feet issues. They're not cheap shoes, but they last a long time and are worth every penny.
