I have read quite a bit of manga in my days so try and recommend less well known manga. Thanks.
A couple things I would really hope NOT to have in romance manga are as follows:
1) It kinda bugs me when there are girls with excessively large boobs, the type of manga that often has this is also very perverted all around. That includes harem and reverse harem.I would prefer it if you tried to avoid these types of manga. (Only exception was Zero no tsukaima)
2) Try to stray away from agonizingly slow progressing romance. That being said, manga that jump into romance is not great either but more tolerable.
3) I have seen mangas where the guy is supposed to be a jerk but is actually a nice guy on the inside and they screw it up and he just looks like a jerk. Yea, I do not like that either.
Things I like in romance manga:
1) Not super girly protagonists.
2) Some tear jerking moments (but hopefully with a happy ending.)
3) I like Action maybe even a bit of Horror.
4) Mysterious pasts. (in both the girl and guy)
5) Stupid self-sacrifice
6) Teens would be nice...(Their age in Gakuen Alice always freaked me out a little)
7) I like fluff, kissing is fine, but I would rather have fluff.
8) A little comedy is always nice.
9) Misunderstood guys
10) Powerful girls
11) Gender benders are pretty cool
12) Good art. (I am a sucker for good art)
