Question
Good return for 1st year?
I'm coming up on my first year in the market, overall I've put about $2400-$2500 total into 4-5 stocks (sold one back in Sep).
As of the close today, I'm up 10.8% to $2733 and change. Is that a decent return for just about one year? My best buys were appl at $250 (was only able to afford 2 shares though). As well as BP at $38 (keeping a very close eye on this one, the real financial affect of the spill has yet to hit).
I also own 20 shares of GIS (Gen. Mill) which hasn't been great but pays a solid dividend.
My other two are a regional bank in NC, FBNC which I'm just breaking even on after commission fees, also pays a decent dividend. I also have GLW (Corning Glass Works). They've done very well recently but had a bit of a low spot in Oct and Nov, but pay a good dividend as well. So overall how would you rate my year?
I'd give it a solid B only b/c my bad spec stock I took a hit on and sold ended up going up over 300% a month and a half after I sold it.
