Good, quiet, public place to fish near Kansas City?

Try the restroom at Long John Silvers. It is a good, quiet, public place, with fish, near Kansas City. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Get out there and find your own honey hole. When you do find your own favorite spot, are you going to tell alot of people on Y answers about it? I'm guessing not. If you need ideas, check the department of natural resources website or call and ask the DNR. Try asking at your local bait shop after making a purchase. They may tell you a good spot in order to keep you coming back and buying more bait. Just don't expect people to tell you about the best places because they will obviously want to keep them secret. Nothing is stopping you from getting out there and discovering these secrets on your own though. Get my drift? People may tell you some spots, but they won't be the best spots. You'll have to find those on your own.

I am looking for a good place to fish in the KC area. I don't have a boat, so I prefer to stay away from the lakes near Blue Springs. I have tried the James A. Reed wildlife area a few times, but it is over-fished. I enjoy fishing for trout and bass. I don't know anyone with a private pond, so I need a public area. Any public ponds/streams good for fishing?

There is a public lake just east of St. Joseph,MO. It is called the Pony Express Lake. It is located just off the state highway (MO-32 ?) between St.Joseph and I-35. Do a Google search or a Map quest, or look on the Mo.Dept. of Natural Resources site, or Mo Conservation site for better location information.

This is a lovely lake, and this time of the year in March and April is good for Crappie. You can rent a rowboat for $5.00. It is a quiet little lake, and not so over fished like Smith ville and Jacomo.
