Good, inexpensive photography book?

I want to know where I can get a good photography book to teach me to be better at taking pictures, but one that's sort of like taking a class (my high school doesn't have a photography class). Any suggestions? thanks
 
Trying to book learn photography is the hard way to go, there must be courses available near you or Photography Clubs. There's nothing better than having the teacher right there with you.

Tom Ang's Digital Photographer's Handbook

it has some useful tips and guides on all sorts of photography

but really the only way to learn it is to practice it all the time. its like learning to ride a bike, you can't learn that straight from a book
