I JUST bought a 83 Chevy S-10 Durango - has very minimal rust, and I got the truck for $400. I was pretty happy with it because it was in great condition but had about 700,000 miles on it. Well, yesterday I lost power while driving, it would kick in one second and get me up to speed, then just die. When this happened before, it was the radiator but I popped open the hood and checked and white smoke/steam was coming from the actual engine and I checked the radiator and used leak protect ant and changed the fluids but the engine just wouldn't start.
I asked the tow guy, and he said due to the high miles, I probably blew the head gasket and he wouldn't doubt it if I cracked the block.
Instead of paying like $1600 to get it repaired and have engine problems again due to the high miles, I want to swap out the engine because engines and transmissions are readily available... unfortunately my minimal mechanic experience is based on 92+ Honda's, lol.
What would be a good and easy engine swap for my 83 Chevy s-10?
