Hi,
I have a dilemma in my hands.
With a tight 2600 max budget for a car I am looking to buy a commuter car that has about 100K miles and is pretty decent inside and out.
I have researched and I found a few in my area, but the brands and mileage do not match the price; Often times I find out that it is likely the cars are lemons, but other people would beg to differ -Volvo enthusiasts-
I can buy old cars with low mileage, but I do not know if that is a good idea, or I could buy a more or less newer car with an average mileage of 120K to 140K.
I am a european car enthusiast, so even though it would break my heart to buy anything but a european car, I would not hesitate to do so if it is a promise for reliability.
I do my own mechanical work and I am very very handy with any car if I get the parts.
So, what could be a good car within the 2600 dollar range, average mileage, and really good reliability -no maintenance besides from oil changes, tires, spark plugs, and refueling please-
I could attach a list of cars in the Dallas area on craigslist, but I have 20. Volvos, Ford, Volkswagen, and Chevy are on the list. Good MPGs are a must for my poor budget
I need cars in the late 1990s and up to 2001-02, 04 if it is a miracle
Cannot and will not lease a car for many reasons
Also, I have worked on older cars and I do not want to be eternally fixing them, because I grow tired of opening the hood too often.
Any thoughts on Ford Explorers in the 2000-2006 range about known tranny issues?
Any thoughts on Volvo S60 & S40 reliability for high mileage?
Any thoughts on real Volkswagen expectations? I have found just about everything could happen with those cars -looks unpredictable-
Thanks in advance
