Goldfinger

I just went to see the 1964 Sean Connery "Goldfinger" at the Wimbledon Odeon.

I haven't seen it in the cinemas for years, and I thought it would be nice to see it on the big screen again (I was 13 the last time I saw it on the big screen!)

It was FABULOUS !

The advertising didn't say that it was a Fully Restored, Digital version!

The picture was clean and precise, with great colour. Detail was fantastic. Contrast was excellent. (I do Photoshop etc for a living, and you can trust me - the picture quality was amazing)

Film grain has been mostly eliminated, to give clear solid colours and gradients.

Also, because it was digital, there was no film jitter (from misaligned sprocket holes etc)

Although only stereo, the sound was crips and clear, with no noise at all.

In fact, it was BETTER THAN NEW. Amazing.

If you get a chance to see this version via digital projector at your local cinema, then GO SEE IT !

So this will be the one of the Lowry Digital Remasters that was released as the Ultimate Collection DVD's last year, which will no doubt be used for any forthcoming Blu-Ray release, although the DVD's were in 5.1 which you would have thought they would have used that instead of stereo as you said they used, but saying that the guys at Lowry know there onions, when it comes to restoring classic films.

That's interesting; I thought that the BBC Summer of British Films wotsit was at Cineworld cinemas only.

Anyhow, I went to see it at Cineworld Enfield last night and it was wonderful to see it on the big screen. Unfortunately, there were lip-synching problems and despite myself and somebody else complaining about this, nothing was done about it.

I was surprised at how full the auditorium was. Out of 156 seats I would say over 100 were taken. I can't imagine the rest of the season doing quite so well, but I think there should be more old films shown at the multiplexes.
