My friends and I want to try hiking the grouse grind, but we're a bit confused about prices, and eating and stuff. Do we have to pay the general admission if we just want to hike up, get something to eat, and take the gondola back down? What is there to eat? Any other advice is really welcomed

You don't need really need safety gear to hike the grouse grind, and definitely not insurance! I've done it before, but it was a few years ago, so I'm not sure about prices.
