That was alot to fit into a question I know...

I just discovered this book in a book store. Its called "God's Word for Students"
Its more like the bible only in easy to read english.
I have made it to 10 pages of the original King James Version in several hours... but with this book I have managed to read 49 pages in several hours.
My question is... is this book a re write of the King James Version of the Bible?
There are several different types of bibles out there. To me, they are all the same. All of them tell of the story that happened and what is supposed to happen. My mother, a methodist is skeptical about me reading this particular book. Yes I am a grown woman and I can do as I please.. but anyone with a mother knows how that ordeal goes.

I'm sorry your mother and so many are in love with the King James Version. It is literally from the dark ages, and ranks as slightly better than The Good News Bible as a translation. NIV is ranked as one of the best. For the best understanding other than reading it in Greek or Hebrew, a comparison between translations is the best, including the King James Versian.

John 1 (New International Version)
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
