God And A Divine Plan?

When I first found out that I was to write a paper on why everything happens for a reason, I thought it would be an easy task. I thought that I believed that everything happened for a reason in life , and I thought I knew why. When I sat down to write my paper, I was complexed, I didn’t know how to explain why I believe that everything happens for a reason. After thinking about it and talking to my family and other people I know, I found out that almost everyone I knew had a different opinion, and it seemed as if I agreed some what with everyone else’s opinion. Some people said that God has a divine plan and everything in life is already decided by God, others said that God gives us all a free will and we decide what happens in our lives, but God is very much involved with our lives. I didn’t know exactly what I believed at this point, all of these people are Christians, yet they had different belief’s on how their lives are laid out.
My family is Christian, my father was raised as a Catholic and my mother was raised as Baptist. My family doesn’t go to church every week, but when we do go we go to a Baptist church. We have also attended Lutheran and Protestant churches with frienRAB. I feel that I have a close relationship with God even though I do not attend church on a regular basis. I was really never told by my parents that everything in life happens for a reason, nor was I told that what happens in life happens because of blind fate, they have always told me to make the best of my life and to go as far as I possibly can in life. So reasonably, I have always believed that I decide what happens in my life, and that there are many different paths to choose in life. I also, however, have always believed that God plays a major part in my life, I believe that my religious belief’s influence the choices that I make in my life.
The ideas that God has a divine plan and that we as people have free wills both seem like reasonable explanations for why what happens in life happens. If God has a divine plan, everything that is happening is happening for some reason known only to God. God might want this planet of ours to be exactly how it is for some reason. However, it is difficult to believe that this planet is the exactly the way that God imagined it to be. It is easier to believe that God gave us minRAB for a reason, and that we all have a free will to chose which direction our lives will go in. I believe that God must have some kind of a plan for my life, but I also believe that I have some control also.
Sometimes it is hard to believe that God has a divine plan, because of the many terrible things that happens to people on this planet in everyday life. For example, recently, eleven students and one teacher were shot and killed while at a school in Littleton Colorado. Right now I’m sure that people are even doubting that God exist, because of the event. I for one would like to know why this happened, but I don’t. I cannot comprehend why God would want this to happen or why he would include this and many other tragedies in his divine plan. However, sometimes tragedies are miracles in disguise. Maybe God had a reason for the shootings, maybe God wanted to open hearts and bring communities together, maybe he wants us to learn from our mistakes, or maybe God did this to bring others close to him and give them eternal life. I am not sure of the exact reason but it is comforting to know that there maybe a reason for the tragedy, and that all of those people did not die in vain.
God may have a master plan, but maybe we have choices as well. I personally don’t believe that God has every single thing we do planned out, for example I don’t think God has planned out what time I will wake up in the morning for every day of my life. I tend to believe that God has a plan, but his plan isn’t exact. God might just have a guideline, and it is our choice whether to follow him or not. Maybe God gave us the tools to join him in heaven, and it is up to us to use those tools to reach him. Life maybe just one big test that God is giving us to see if we truly love him and deserve to be with him.
I put my trust in God and pray to him. After I pray I always feel like everything is going to be okay. I get the same feeling of comfort by believing that God has some kind of a plan for my life, and that everything happens for a reason. We learn from the trials and tribulations of everyday life, and I believe that everyday, we become stronger in some way. I admit that I worry, actually I used to worry a lot, about almost everything. I know I have worried a lot over a lot of different situations in my life, but now those situations are in the past and I can’t remeraber the majority of them. Over the years I know I have learned that somehow everything works itself out, and worrying about what has or will happen has no effect.
Many people that I have talked to said that God has a divine plan, and we are here only to worship or glorify him. I am not sure that I completely agree with that statement. I worship God, but I can’t honestly say that I believe that the only reason I am on this earth is to glorify him. I have to believe that God has some kind of purpose for my being alive.
Discussing this topic with other people has really helped me form my own opinions. I am glad that I had the opportunity to write this paper, because before this paper I have really never thought about why I believed that everything in life happens for a reason. I even read some of the bible because of this paper. Maybe I got a C on the mid-term, so I could come to understand what it is that I believe and why. I nor anyone else on this earth knows the exact reason behind everything that happens, but at least I now know what I believe. I have come to the conclusion that God has a plan for my life, but he also gave me a free will to make certain choices. I have learned that no matter how things may look at the present time, God is working all things for the good of all.
