Gmail sync over-wrote my actual address book with gmail contacts. PLEASE HELP!

If this is in the wrong folder, I apologize in advance, but I'm so furious I can't even see straight.

I somehow accidentally gave my new Android phone (Samsung Moment on the Sprint network) the okay to sync with my (extremely seldom used) gmail account, and now I can't view my regular contacts list! I only had one contact in my gmail account (which was me), and now whenever I try to view my contacts, I'm the only contact listed, and it's just got my gmail addy. How can I access the rest of my contacts that are in my phone?! The only way I'm able to see ANY of them right now is to start to send a text message, manually start typing in the name of the contact I'm trying to get ahold of, wait for the phone to show a possible list of names, and then manually copy down the phone number to make my call. I know all the names are still in there, because I can access them this way, and the phone recognizes incoming calls from people on my real contacts list...but I can't pull up the list at ALL. This is REALLY ticking me off. How can I get my actual contacts list back??? SO FRUSTRATED.

I already disabled the gods forsaken Gmail sync (I do not use gmail for anything, so I don't need or want it), but it seems the damage has already been done. I did some web searching, and I found a solution for a similar problem on the HTC Magic, which involves selecting "Edit Sync Groups" from the Contacts menu - except I don't have that option on my Contacts menu with the Samsung Moment. I am so furious. I can't even pull up my contacts list full of phone numbers when I'm trying to make a call!! Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know about samsung, but the gmail seems working fine in my phone. Mime is G2. And it's simple that I just need to set the account and password to visit my gmail. Don't even need to set the IMAP or the POP3 server.

The sync works in both directions. All of your contacts will have been uploaded to Google, and all of your contacts on Google will have been downloaded to your phone. It's likely they've just been put into different folders and that all your contacts are still on your phone. This is supported by the fact they're still searchable.

Do you have a Contacts app? Or is it called People on your phone?

extorian is right. It shouldn't be erased when synced. First, try to see if it's hidden. In contacts: menu/Display options/Choose contacts to display.

Second, if your contacts are in SIM card, try menu/Import/Import from SIM card.

Also login to your gmail on a computer and check if contacts are there.
