Gmail and N73, deletes emails automatically

K I have my Gmail setup on my N73. I can send/receive just fine, but if I have unread emails in my inbox when it connects the next time, they are removed from the inbox. REAL annoying. It happened with pop.gmail.com and still happens if I switch to pop.googlemail.com. Is there a setting that I'm missing or is this just how it is with Gmail? Is there another (free) service that doesn't do this?

Please don't suggest profimail or some other email program. I know they work, and I know where to find them, I just would rather stick with the built-in program, thanks.

I hear ya on sticking with the built in email program.
This is how gmail works. The best way to use it is to set your automatic downloads to retrieve just the header. That way nothing gets deleted. When you want to read a specific header/email, click on it, and it will quickly download the full message. You can then read it, however, the message will still be deleted from your phone on next reconnect.

how did you setup for incoming gmail? I am on TMobile but cannot receive incoming gmail. I can send outgoing without any problems, but incoming tries tries and finally times out.

Its just stupid gmail. it always does that. did it with multiple different email clients so its not the nokia client that has the problem. happened on all my pocketpc also. what i ended up doing was forwarding all my gmail messages to my .mac account and everything worked fine but it was still annoying as hell.

That's not true.

I access GMAIL on MS Outlook, my blackberry and have used a Nokia N73 and E70 to retrieve from the POP account all at the same time.

The messages still remain on the server...

You also have to make sure your email client is set to leave messages on the server (which Nokia does)

As the Gmail homepage says:

Mobile access
Read Gmail on your mobile phone by pointing your phone's web browser to http://gmail.com.

It works great on the N73, same access as desktop, delete, send, reply, just like the desktop. Just save your password, bookmark, and you have 1 click access to your gmail. No need to set up an email client.

FANTASTIC!!

give it a try,

Alan

I don't think nokia's client leaves the msgs on server. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn.t.

I agree, this is how I do it. Itis very fast and very user friendly. You still have the mail search function like you do on your desktop so it makes life very easy when you need to find mail.

I have the same problem with my N70 and Gmail. Pop is on, it retrieves fine all the time. And then all of a sudden, N70 blurts! 43 NEW EMAILS! You know, its the same damn emails that were there before! Nothing changed on my phone or the server in 1 friggin hour. Sometimes, there's only 3 messages that show up on the N70, sometimes all 40whatever. Its completely random. Glad it works for some people. -phonophiliac

p.s. I will say though, it usually works, and also just for clarity, its not actually deleting the messages off the server, it just doesnt always pick them up right.

I have that bookmarked, but it doesn't allow for attachments. I use gmail on my phone basically so at work I have a way to get themes and programs to my phone.
