I have a 72 Chevelle, when I got it the resistance wire was cut because it was converted to HEI, so I spliced in another piece that makes it the same length that it should be so the distributor gets the right volts since I went back to points. I just got the car running, and im, still working out the bugs, and the battery died on me, and when I charge it, it gets so hot it melts the electrical tape holding it together and starts smoking. I realize that electrical tape isnt the right thing, but should that wire get so hot? What could be my problem?
