I suspect this is an essay or assignment you have to complete so a few pointers for your research:
Look up the UK Govt's view, see Phil Woolas UK Govt. Env. Minister ( prior to the last Cabinet reshuffle ) and the UK Agricultural Biotechnology Council standpoint .. generaly supportive and claiming there are 'very robust' safety procedures in place.
How does the UK, and the publics views stack up against the rest of the world and the EU.
Look up Friends of the Earth's standpoint, very much against, and why they take that view. Consider the legal defence of their direct action protests which often result in a not guilty verdict .. why ? because English Law has a statutory defence of protecting a greater danger as a justification for the damage caused.
Look up Monsanto . the giant Canadian Company who have patents on various GM crops. Especially look up the protracted court cases over 10 years through the Canadian Courts when Monsanto sued a Saskatchewan farmer, Mr. Percy Schmeiser. See what farming practices Mr. Schmeiser used. Why did Monsanto sue him? What happened ?. Do you agree? A careful reading will give you loads of material to help you decide.
Do you think it right that companies like Monsanto can achieve total control by their market strength and licensing agreements over the entire production process, from initial seed purchase, sowing, harvesting, and final marketing of resultant crops or do you believe that sometimes too much science and technology is inappropriate for developing countries and places a perpetual burden of debt and reliance upon them ? Is GM, as so often claimed, the only way to feed a growing world population ? Is all GM science 'meddling with God' or is some of it justified ?
To what extent can patents be placed upon living material, how much still remains to be discovered in our forests, should scientists be able to market something place upon the earth by our maker for us all, and esp. indigenous peoples to use, as they have done for years.
