this will be different steps because ive added each day something new...
the car was driving fine. i drove it 2 hours to pick up my wife and 2 hours back and it started acting like it wanted to die right when i was getting home. i parked it and reved the engine, it stays on but when im not pressing the gas it acts like it wants to shut off but doesnt it just shakes but says on.
i let it cool down and went back to turn it on. it turns on perfect. shifted it into all gears and it still sounded fine. i touch the gas SLIGHTLY and it starts acting like it wants to die again. i took it around the block and what happens is when i press the gas it feels like its dieing but i press the gas harder and it drives like im racing it. i get to a stop or a speed bump and it acts like it wants to due again. i just cleaned the carburetor about 2 days ago because it was hesitating when i pressed the gas only sometimes.
1987 cadillac brougham fleetwood 307ci with 200r4 tranny 4bbl carb 106k miles. any help would be great.
btw the service engine light has been on since i got the car 2 weeks ago. engine oil and tranny oil are fine, coolant is a lil brown. i drove it 2 hours when i got it and it was fine. has been and after this drive it started to act up.
pulled 2 codes. 34 and 45. which i think are map sensor and o2 sensor. could any of these cause this?
friend of mine told me 2 check all the hose going to the map sensor. it seemed good so i unpluged the map sensor and plug and it ran the same way as if it was pluged in. so i got a new map sensor installed it and installed a bypass hose to the connection T it was going to just to see if it might be the hose. started it up and it runs a lil better but still aint right. reset the comp and it still wasnt running right. threw the code 34 again but no 45.. so map sensor again. how if its new?
i did want to say this i did do 2 new things to it before this happened. one was cleaning the carb with carb cleaner.. i used the whole can not all at one but about 3x i cleaned it. also i put premium gas which i had not before. i cant imagine why this would cause it to do this but just a thought i guess.
update. not 100% sure yet but i turned it on so i can test the sensor and b4 i could i noticed it didnt start 2 die out. i put it in reverse, drive back in park, gave it gas.. didnt die..sounded ok.. so i took it for a drive and for the most part it sounded ok..towards the end of the drive around my block it did feel a lil weak or hesitate a sec. but than ran ok again..the main thing was when i was driving and came on a stop it didnt want to die...the code 34 did come up again though.
could it have been the new map sensor? it didnt work great the minute i installed it but it feels ALOT better right now.
still hesitates when it press the gas a little but it runs smoother.. not right.. any ideas? still pulls code 34
