i have a 2000 chevy impala with a 3.4L engine. i bought it a year ago and i drove it for 6 months and i thought the thermostat went bad because that's where it appeared to be leaking from so i replaced it once and the seal 4 times then my uncle informed me that it was more than likely the intake gasket. so i eventually ordered it and before i took the intake apart i flushed the water system 3 times and i was still getting junk out of it. so i went ahead with replacing the intake and i put everything back to the torch specs. started the car up and i think i'm sucking water into the number 2 cylinder. it's the cylinder that keeps misfiring and i can tell its burning fluid by the exhaust smoke it's white smoke and feels moist when you put your hand in it. PLEASE TELL ME ITS JUST THE HEAD GASKET. but trust me i am prepared to hear that it is a cracked block

did you try new spark plugs? no i dont think you had hydro lock you would have blown the head off if water got in it and tryed to compress. would hydro lock 'lock up" or blow the gaskets or heads.
White smoke and water is normal when you first start it moisture in the air and what not. like i said try new spark plugs. ac delco ect.

its very possible that it did have stop leak in it and when you flushed it out you flushed the stop leak out with the rest of the junk and the block could be busted in it,and ever who sold it you may a known that also, its a shame but people are getting ripped off left and right these days, have a pressure check ran on it and se how fast it looses pressure,it could just be a blown head gasket and they may have doped it up to get rid of it,good luck.
