Gilles VCR38GT failure

Hi all, I had my 1st track day crash at NJMP Thunderbolt with Tony's Trackday today and it was all thanks to the failure of my Gilles VCR38GT rear sets. Here's the story:

For those that don't know how Thunderbolt is, there's one chicane that makes you first go in right, the switch to the left side. So when I set up to go in to the right hander, I get on to the peg and the peg goes *snap*. Now, my body weight is already on the right side and it's impossible for me to get back on the bike and I basically keep turning right.... Right in to the dirt and in to a crash. Here's some pics of the aftermath. Now, I've never heard of a foot peg failing like that and maybe some of you have. Now I'm pissed, and my 1st crash wasn't something that I did, but because of a manufacturer failure. What do you guys think I should do

Buy better pegs, fix her up & get back out there.

You'll have a hard time convincing Gillies that is was there fault & they should pay etc. unless of course you can prove it was the manufacturers fault.

A bit of bad luck.

got any video of the mishap? that may help your cause but just remember that you were on a race track and things do happen....
sorry that you have to deal with this but glad you're ok.
SPOKE

It just pisses me off that my 1st crash was because of a issue with my "upgrade". You guys are right and since there is no true "evidence" and no video, it seems I'm outta luck. I'll send them a email anyways and see what they say.

If they fit you +1

But if they don't, you need something more like this:

Motowheels folding rearsets

They don't look like much, but they are the best adjustable rearset I've found for 1098/1198, besides the ones I custom made because I was tired of waiting for these to show up! LOL

BTW: Most aftermarket rear sets are 100% garbage, they are designed to inthrall you with features, not functionality. I'd call the manufacturer and bitch, for sure.

Bummer dude.

Those Gilles always looked flimsy to me......and if you do a search here there seems to be quite a few buyers who are unimpressed with them (this is the first I've heard that have cracked, though)

When you rebuild may i suggest the Metaltech units:

These are solid units, and the folding toe-pegs are an added, and worthwhile, bonus.

JDW is right. The Metal Tech are sweet. If I'm not mistaken, the mounting screws also act as break away pins for the frame tabs so ya don't bend 'em in a mishap...

Those are the fold-up metaltechs.

Funny you guys were able to get them, I contacted them for sponsorship opportunities earlier this year and they were out of stock and didn't have a time for shipment. I'm glad they finally released them because they're very nice.
