getting tested for cystic fibrosis gene before getting pregnant?

My mothers brother had a daughter who had a child eleven years ago who has cystic fibrosis (he is my 2nd cousin). Because my mother and uncle were orphaned at a young age we cannot trace the gene trail back and see if it has come from their side of the family ... although we do speculate that my mothers father may have had the disease. I want to get tested as my partner and I are to start trying for our first child at the end of this year. I live in the UK and have been informed that I cannot get tested on the NHS because it is only my second cousin that has the actual disease and he isnt closely related enough genetically (is this true?).

Does anyone know where I can get tested and how I can go about doing this?
