Getting PS3 sound to work on stereo receiver?

I have a receiver that I use to listen to my computer. I have a pair of studio monitors (spearkers) which are plugged into the line in inputs of the receiver. (Note these are hight quality spearkers they don't plug in with speaker wire.) I also have a sub attached the the receiver. When I am using my comp I can control the volume level using the volume control on my comp, and not the dial on the receiver. My question is I just bought a PS3 that I am plugging into the same receiver. When I play I am un able to adjust the volume using the receiver dial. It just stays at one volume which happens to be way to loud so I have been playing with headphones fine. Any ideas on how I can get this to work? Thanks for your input
