Getting pregnant to help pay for college?

I know this sounds stupid but i heard many colleges will help pay for college if you are single and have a kid. My boyfriend and i have been dating for two years and i start school in the fall. We are planning on getting engaged once i turn 18 in august. He is 25 (yea its weird but it works) and we are both ready to have kids. The problem is the school i want to go to is will put me at about 80,000 in debt after im done but im set on this school. He works at an electric store full time and makes 11.00 an hour and i work as a CNA making 15.00. According to the fafsa my parents make to much for me to be eligible for anything but loans and i only had a 3.0 gpa so im not really eligible for any scholarships. I spent all of high school working instead of being involved in sports so there is just nothing i can get scholarship money for! Im honestly at a loss for what to do, and this is sounding better and better each day.... a little help here?

That sounds like something that would help. I myself wanted to do that. Well might do, I'm pregnant at the time and I'm 19. I'm in a program called Aspire but I still need to wait and see if I qualify, they told me most likely I will because I am prego. I guess they help you out with jobs and school. Also my ahcccs (mercy care) offers a program for teens that are pregnant to get in school. This wasn't much of an answer to you but yeah, give it a try it might just work! Good luck

Wow. Having a child for government grants essentially? I think that is exploitation of a child and quite sad.

Here's an idea....do it the old fashioned way: keep workinig your job and get a standard student loan to pay off later after you graduate.

The maximum a government will pay is about $6,000/yr anyway (and that is IF you qualify for the full amount, which you won't because you make 15/hr!!!) so your selected school would still be out of the question. Time to live within your means like the rest of the real world.

The reason a school might have a lower tuition for single moms is to offset the cost of a baby. You are going to have plenty on ADDED expenses with raising a child.

And I doubt any discount the school you are considering MIGHT give will amount to anything that will make a dent in the $80,000 tuition.

Pregnancy is the wrong answer. I'd start considering another school that is more affordable. Also...is there a way to apply to your school without your parent's financial support? it might make a difference in the aid you get.

That sounds crazy.... you need to have a kid for the right reasons! not because you wanna get some sort of government funding.

Well, some schools have special programs for single people with children, BUT it isn't going to help out that much. You will have to apply for scholarships, loans, etc. My college has a special $500 refund raffle for student mothers, too. Getting pregnant for school is not a good idea BECAUSE having a baby is sooo incredibly expensive even without the school expenses. Also, my grades suffered so much after having my son. You have so much less time to study and it's even harder to get to class. I missed so many classes due to my son being sick, dr's appts, etc. There aren't any full scholarships that I know of and if they are, I am sure you are one of thousands that would apply for it. If you make under a certain amount you could apply for the Pell Grant. That paid for one of my friend's college education. Good luck!
