I have been taking percocects for about 3 yrs. Im so tired of the dependency that I have decided to quit on my own. Today is the first day and I know I'm in for a ride. I have been reading everyones story and it has helped me alot. Now when I get therw this withdrawls crap I will go to n/a for support because this site gave me the stenght to start a new being!

Welcome Buffie,
First off, CONGRATS on making this decision. I know how hard it was to do because I have been there. When I quit, for a long time I felt like I just lost my best friend. It was really hard and you know what... it still is but it's so worth it.
The wd's are going to be bad but they do pass. If you don't mind sharing some more info I would be interested to hear how much you were taking a day for three years. That will help us figure out how long and hard of a ride this part of it will be for you. I mean each person is different but we could take a guess anyways :) So you decided to do this cold turkey? WOW. You are one tough cookie. Me, I chose to taper because I did the cold turkey thing a time or two when I ran out of meRAB and it was so horrible I just couldnt put myself thru that again. Each person is different though and I commend you for taking this step. You should be very proud of yourself.
This site has been so wonderful to me and I hope you make yourself at home and let us get to know you and get to know some of us.
We are here to support you, answer questions... listen to you vent, cry, complain, share your success stories, whatever.... If you search my old posts.... your eyes would probably fall out from all the complaining and what not I did and still do. ahahaha
I hope this message finRAB you still hanging in there. Also, if you wouldn't mind, I would love to hear your back story... Why you started to take the percs, how you decided to stop... whatever you want to share I am all ears. Well, I should say I'm all eyes actually since I will be reading your worRAB not hearing them.
You will be in my prayers!
Blessings
I'm Secrets, it's a pleasure to meet you.

It is a big step deciding to finally quit. Going cold turkey is a BIG step to take and if you can make it through it, the better off you are. But, if it becomes too difficult, we can help advise you on how to taper. The first time I went c/t I spent the worse 50hrs of my life. I couldn't do it and I eventually tapered down to a lower lever before I tried it again. It's an experience I never want to go through ever again. Keep us up to date on how you're doing and if you have any questions. Good Luck!

Hello Buffie

Nice to meet you and happy for your determination to get off the Percocet merry-go-round. I wish you all the best in meeting the goal.

If you have not already read it, take the time to read the second post on this board titled, "Sample Home Detox. It contains many good suggestions to help you through this. No matter how we detox, the suggestions are useful.

Try to look at every symptom suffered as a symptom of healing, of restoring the brain and body. Live in the day only (in the moment if necessary). Withdrawal is not pleasant but there will come an end.

Attending NA is a great step! We so need the support of caring, understanding people to help us as we reprogram our brains to stop pills from being a priority. The world is brighter and happier again when we experience it sober.

All the best
