Hi guys,

I'm currently with Rogers Wireless (Canadian carrier). They are having a promotion right now (referenced in rogers forum) with a bunch of pretty high end phones (high end by my standards) for 99 cents (with 3 years contract).

list of phones included in this deal:

BB Pearl 8220
Sony Ericsson W760
Sony Ericsson W350
Samsung F406
ZTE Rock F165
Samsung Propel A766
Sony Ericsson X1
LG Eve
Blackberry Bold 9000 White
Sony Ericsson X1 English
Nokia N86 8MP
HTC Magic

I'm due a hardware upgrade but not sure which one's to get (I'll need 2 - one for me one for my wife). Was hoping maybe there are some cell phone buffs here that could help me out.

How good is the camera on the N86? We don't have a decent camera, my wife might like that one.

Me: Enjoys surfing, email, texting, occasional pictures (and of course I want great quality in my calls). I also want to be able to play mobile games. I would prefer a phone that comes with a keyboard ... I like touch screens but not sold on texting via screen.

Wife: Wants a phone with a great camera, may also surf occasionally, and she texts occasionally as well.

Both of us use the hands free speaker feature on our phones alot so that's important too.

Any advice?

Our current phones are ericsson w810i so this is going to be a big jump I think heh. I'm willing to pay for other contract phones on the Rogers site up to 100 dollars if any of you see one that you think would be a superior choice.

Camera on the N86 has some compromises. I'm not sure exactly what they are as I'm far from a camera buff, but some camera buffs feel in some ways it's worse than 5MP models.

I'd go for the X1 from that selection. Keyboard is good, and WM has cooked ROMs that always make the software better. Camera also will be decent. It's good for a middle ground.

I would pick the EVE, HTC Magic or the Blackberry Bold here. Based on experience, these would be the most responsive and have the most and best apps. Having seen and tried the X1, its a slug. The N86 is nice if you're a Nokia fan, but not that convincing if you're not.

I'm going to agree with Drillbit here. The Eve and Magic will probably be best for games, web browsing, multimedia, apps. The Blackberry Bold would be really good for messaging. I've heard nothing but praise for it. But it still has a fairly small screen and is messaging/business oriented. I'm not sure what the Rogers HTC Hero costs, but if it is reasonable, I'd highly recommend it. Sense UI, Android, apps, games, HTC keyboard, web browsing. All big pluses for that phones. Though the Magic and Eve would have some of the same

I don't know where people are saying the n86 has a bad camera. It has the best camera out right now, for all around conditions. Plus it has smart zoom on video. Search around on flickr or around the net for n86 samples. It has a killer camera.

Awesome for games too. It slides back and a perfect controller in your hand. Gba, nes, and genesis emulators that are near perfect. Plus all the ngage games, a few good native symbian games.
