Getting into a pre-med program?

I'm 20 years old, I graduated high school at 18, entered a good college, but without any direction or ambition I did not do well at all. I'm from NY by the way and I live in the city. A year ago, a close friend of mine got me into EMS, because that's what he was doing. I am now a certified EMT (I'm very into it I would even say that I've found my calling), and I'm thinking about taking the paramedic course. I feel incredibly lucky that I fell in love with something that I can do that can make me money, and I feel like my ultimate goal now is to become a surgeon.

TL;DR I did shitty in early college but now I'm an EMT and i want to go to medical school.

I'm not stupid at all, I'm sure I have the brains to get into med school given the chance, but I don't know how to go about transitioning from a shitty student profile to premed.

I have 39 credits (no science or anything), a 1.9ish gpa, but a very good high school transcript. Would i even get into a premed program with a 1.9? even though I'm an EMT and i could have letters of recommendation. Would becoming a paramedic help my chances of getting into a good premed program? Should I forget about my 39 credits and start again from a new, thus resetting my gpa and going back to 0 credits. What are some good school choices for me?

Clearly I'm lost as you can see by the amount of questions I have. Please help, I'm very devoted to medicine at this point I love helping people and I don't think anything is cooler than surgery or emergency medical care.
EDIT: I'm not talking about going to medical school (yet) I mean a premedical program. What is a good way to enter that program in my school with a gpa as low as mine, or possibly transfer schools, maybe meet with the guidance office and tell them my experience and motivation, to try and make up for how terrible my grades are by impressing them face to face or something.
