getting fish out of ornament...?

I have a raphael catfish that I took from my parents when they got rid of their tank. he was originally mine so I figured I might as well take him back... the problem is he's in this neon pink, yellow, green, and orange pot that is ugly and ruins the flow of my tank. I have another pot for him to hide in that fits better, so how on earth do I get him out?

he hides in the handle.he must come out to eat but I have not been able to catch him out and about yet and I've had him for about a month. do I break the ornament, if so how do I do that without hurting him? there is no room in the tank for both pots, so I can't leave them both in there and hope he'll go into the other one, I have to get him out of the one to put the new one in because the tank has driftwood and plants also.

also, he's only about 4yrs old, so he's got plenty of life left. waiting for him to die to remove the pot is NOT an option.
yeah... I did that for about 15mins and he still wouldn't come out.

the reason I gave hi to my parents was because the only hiding spot he thought suitable in the old tank he was in was behind the heater.... which burned him. so instead of finding a new spot he'd sit back there and chirp the whooooole night. stupid fish -___-;
he's already in my tank, I've had him for about a month month now. I couldn't get him out of the pot when I moved him so I just put the whole thing in the bag.
