Getting around T-mobile contract to get a phone.?

Ok, so here is the deal. I want to buy a Blackberry 8520 for my t-mobile account. I am currently due for an upgrade. I already resigned my contract but did not get a new phone because I couldn't find one I liked, the one's I did like required a data plan. What I want to do is go over to the tmobile store, buy my blackberry, let them change my contract there, then later call back and tell them that I don't want a data plan. The reason I don't want a data plan is because it will raise my bill from 50 to 90. I am a poor college student, and I need to save where I can. If I do this, do you think that I it will work, or do you think they will end up charging me the full price of the phone in the end?
 
Or you could do 500mins and unlimited everything else for 60bucks if your off contract so best thing to do is try and get off contract with Tmobile and buy the phone from craigslist its usually half the price if you want it from Tmobile they have installment plans for new phones.
