hey i joined the military about 2 years ago and was pretty social before joining. i'm pretty lonely to be honest and when i try talking to people and telling jokes they dont get my jokes like my old friends and made fun of me most of the time i know we get tough love but i just really want people to accept me for me... now i've become socially awkward, quiet, and serious most of the time so i don't get hurt.. i know i shouldnt take things so seriously but its easier said than done... can anyone help me?

What you are going though is called "Coming of Age". You have grow up and matured in a way your old buddies don't understand. Don't stop being their friend. They won't understand your humor unless they have been in the military. You are just going to have to think more like a civilian when you are around them.

I know exactly what your going through once you join the military no matter the branch your changed for ever. My friend got back from army basic and was mean and serious as hell. You have been through more serious choices then most of your friends will ever encounter. Try to talk to your friends about it or maybe be more social with your friends in the military.
Thanks - Chris
