getting a spam txt and it doesn't say the name of the person it is from it is just

a number. how do they do it? I am getting a spam txt and it doesn't say the name of the person it is from it just shows a 4 digit number...ex: 4587. Does anybody know how they do this?
but how do someone use their number as an alias
