Getting 22ish mpg on 2010 Honda Civic LX 5spd Auto?

Hi, I just got a 2010 Honda Civic LX with an automatic transmission with EPA MPG ratings at 26 city and 36 highway. Combined is around 29 MPG.I'm getting 22MPG! its terrible! I'm driving mostly expressways and not making frequent stops so i thought I would land at around the low end which is 26. I use hypermiling techniques but i'm not getting good mileage! I coast a lot and try to time my way when approaching stop lights. I would consider myself a very conservative drive. WHAT'S GOING ON?? Do I have to break the engine in? HELP! My friend got 25 out of a BMW 3 series. Getting 22 off a Honda Civic LX with a 1.8litre engine (ultra small...seriously) is just terrible.
