Get a new phone on verizon wireless?

I am in the middle of a phone contract and i have a Razr for verizon wireless, and i realy want a new phone. But if i upgrade my phone will i have to pay $500 because im not getting it with a new 2 year contract? Or will i pay the price as if i bought it with a 2 year contract.
