German grammar quirk?

literal translation:
"I am cold" = "Ich bin kalt"
"We are cold" = "Wir sind kalt"
But in both cases in german you use dative:
"I am cold" = "Mir ist kalt" (1. person singular dative)
"We are cold" = "Uns ist kalt" (1. person plural dative)
You don't say "Wir sind kalt".
Only the phrase "Wir sind kalt erwischt worden" exist, it means something like "we are hit between the eyes".
And if you talk about feelings, like Rikki Helena said, it is possible to say sth. like "Ich bin kalt" ( means ~ "frozen heart/no feelings"), but no one would really say something like this.
However, to say "Du bist kalt" (You have no feelings) is very common.

If you say 'Ich bin Kalt', it means I am cold(hearted). So the 'Mir ist' is probably more of the quirk

Uns ist kalt would be "us is cold". Uns, unser is us/our.
