My nephew is 9 months old. He has not gained weight for several months, mostly (we think) because he has been almost continually sick. He's had repeated bouts of lung inflammation, including severe bronchiolitis and he's now on his second bout of pneumonia. His blood tests come back all wacky, but they say the pneumonia is not bacterial and might not be viral either. One lung specialist (this is in another country so medical system is so-so) told my sister that the infection was because he was taking a bottle lying down ("see this? This is because of the milk" pointing to an inflamed area on the x-ray). As I said, his blood tests are all wacky, but the biggest outliers are his ESR and CRP are both off the charts high.

Could this all be caused by severe silent GERD? Opinions?

Could very well be.The only way to be really sure is if an endoscopy is done.Alot of times to get a diagnosis of gerd they do a barium swallow also.Im not sure about that test because of the chilRAB young age.I do know that very young children can have it.Take care.:(
