I have had GERD and Ulcers for 2 or 3 years. I am also diagnosed with anxiety disorder. I have sleeping problems which causes me to sleep around 7 or 8am in the morning then wake up in the afternoon around 4 or 5pm. I take zantac 1 time a day and eat maalox like candy for pain. I also take 10mg of vicodin every single night to help with the pain. I'm still waiting to get on an antidepressant. What i am worried about and wanted to ask.. is that has the vicodin i have been taking for pain making it worse? i have been taking it for about 6 months. Not perscription. The pain i have from the ulcer, is a really bad shooting pain in my back and my neck gets tight and it is hard to swallow and the acid builRAB up in my throat and my throat is very sore and dry and stings at times. Mostly it is this cold feeling in my throat and chest that irritates me. When i breathe and calm down and try to meditate all the pain eases off a bit. Another symptom that mainly bothers me is my heart racing when the pain in my back gets bad.

Vicodin wont make the ulcer worse, but it wont make it any better.

You should try taking Prilosec OTC, 1 tab in the morning, this is much more effective than Zantac at supressing stomach acid, and will releive your symptoms in a few days.

Are you under treatment from a doctor, i am suprised he hasnt prescribed Prilosec or another PPI for you. You also need to be tested for h.pylori (the bacteria that causes most ulcers) as if you are carrying it, you will need to take a course of antibiotics to get rid of it.

I was wondering the same thing--whether you have a gastroenterologist treating you for the GERD and ulcers and whether your ulcers were confirmed by scope. It sounRAB like you're experiencing an awful lot of pain and I hope you can get some relief soon.

You mentioned waiting for some anti-depressants. You may already be aware that depending on the classification of those meRAB, anti-D's can cause huge stomach issues. With SSRI's like celexa and lexapro, stomach upset is a common side effect.

I have not been back to the doctor after he examined me. I am trying to get an appointment as soon as possible. I went to the hospital and they told me to be in contact with my doctor and just keep taking Zantac and Maalox or Tums until then. Do they test for h.pylori through blood work?

I have tried Pevea with xanax around 2006-2007. And now 2009 i tried to get on it again and it made my stomach hurt horrible also making me have extreme shaking. Though i did try it without the xanax this time.

When my ulcer started getting bad it was in 2009 when i had to be on antibiotics for a pelvic imflammitory infection. I got very sick on differen't antibitoics because it was hard on my stomach. After then i've been having stomach issues eversince then.
I have tried Prilosec over the counter. And Pepcid perscription (which made me sick and dizzy). Aciphex worked well with me until it didn't work enough after the first two to three months. Then the stomach doctor i went to told me Zantac was the best so i'm trying this. Is it more effective to take one in the morning and one at night instead of just one in the morning?

If memory serves, Zantac only works for 8 hours. If you are having this many problems, you need to be on a PPI. I've taken almost all of them over the last 16 years with varying results. Remeraber, each person will have a different reaction to each of the medications. In my case, I've found that Nexium (Esomeprazole) works the best for me. Don't be fooled into thinking PPI's are the end all be all of stomach medication. I do have "breakthrough" reflux in the middle of the night and find occasional usage of Zantac helps.

I think its mainly done through a breath test these days - if you are positive, they give you a course of antibiotics plus an acid supressor to heal the existing ulcer, and they usualy are gone for good then.

Prilosec OTC is a more potent acid supressor than Zantac, you can actualy take them together, say a Prilosec in the morning, and a Zantac at bedtime, with antaciRAB inbetween.
