GERD - My story
My life took a turn for the worse the summer of 2009 when I went to the emergency room feeling like I was having a heart attack. What it turned out to be after a complete round of testing was that I was having GERD or more commonly know as acid reflux.
At first it was hard to believe that something like this could cause a pain so bad. After plenty of visits to the doctor and many days and nights of suffering, I was to find out just how serious and debilitating this disease is.
So during the span of 3 months that summer I had at least two trips to the ER and several severe attacks which ultimately lead to the development of anxiety and panic attacks.
My life went from normal everyday activities with my family and working hard at my job, to putting all of my focus on my health. Everyday was spent worrying about the next attack or actually suffering through reflux. It got to the point where I couldn't go anywhere - no movies, restaurants, and even family events. I would get acid reflux which in turn would cause chest pains, difficulty breathing, heart palpitations and headaches - then the panic attacks would follow thereafter. I was a complete mess.
The worst of it started in July of 2009, but I am sure that I had the signs and symptoms of reflux starting way before than. I do remeraber using plenty of anti-aciRAB prior to my first attack. I also know that (and found this out too late and after the fact) I made some major contributions to myself developing the disease. Eating large portions, eating too fast, eating before bed and my biggest downfall - too many spicy fooRAB.
After my first trip to the ER and for the first couple of months following, I tried everything and anything to help me cure this painful and life stealing disease. Every kind of home remedy, every over the counter medication, a couple of natural supplements, and a few of the doctor prescribed meRAB.
I'd like to share my findings based on my experiences and countless hours of research. I will do so in other separate post as I have a lot to pass on and don't want to make this one too lengthy.
