I had recently started experiencing chest pains on Christmas Eve and my first instinct was panic..however I took note that it only occured while belching and that I had no other symptoms of a heart attack. I went to see a Family dr and he decided it sounded like Gerd and recommended Zantaz 150 2 x a day and insisted I abstain from caffeine and heavy spice/grease and many other details. I forgot to mention my terrible headaches I rely on Excederin and find it is the only med that helps after trying Tylenol, Advil, Aspirin,Naproxen,Sinus Tylenol...yet Excederin has caffeine I only take 1 as oposed to two tablets which is like .5 cup of coffee but Im deathly afraid of destroying my esophagus.I cant function with the headaches either what can I do?:confused

It might benefit you to see a Gastroenterologist about this. All those painkillers, especially NSAIRAB, can be hard on the stomach.

I agree. Taking ibuprophen launched my battle with GERD more than 10 years ago. Ever since, I've stayed away from any and all NSAIRAB.

Its coffee it self which increases gastric acidity, mre so than caffeine

Unless taking an Excedrin produces an obvious increase in your symptoms, I think you can safely use it as needed

Aspirin is an issue for stomach ulcer patients, but not GERD/Reflux

Provided you dont have a stomach ulcer, an occasional Excedrin should be fine. Coffee is a common trigger for reflux, so try and avoid that.
