I have almost finished the book, and have found it FASCINATING. I do believe him.

I already see things that he predicted realizing, and I am just waiting for the time when everything in that book becomes real life.

What do people WHO HAVE READ IT think?

I darn well agree. This whole No Child Left Behind Act. This whole government being able to tap into our phone conversations. These ridiculous standardized tests students have to take. Frankly, I don't even think the government cares about our education. They don't care who fails. They only care of the discriminating numbers they glean from these tests. In fact, I read an opinion article that stated what George Bush was doing was similar to what Adolf Hitler was doing for his burgeoning empire. I'm an optimistic person, but I'm also realistic. If our country continues to plummet into debt every second, if that Child Act isn't repealed, and if the phone tapping gets in the wrong hands, we're pretty much doomed. Oh, and the fact that the government wants to take away our rights to bear arms, which to me isn't a good thing. People can still smuggle weapons, and it's going to be those people who are going to kill others just because they know they can.

Homeland Security and it's head of operations the head Nazi are already taking our liberties away and only the rich don't seem to care. Probably because they are on the 'A' list of those who don't have to be subject to the changing laws that benefit the wealthy and target the poor. Say hello to Big Brother.

I totally agree with you. I mean, if you take a good hard look, you'll realise that some of the stuff described in 1984 is already happenning around us. It's quite scary when you think about it.
