George Lucas is detroying franchises. STOP HIM!!

I went to see the latest Indiana Jones film last night after years of anticipation and excitement. What a load of old garbage. It does not deserve to be treated this way. They said there wouldn't be much CGI in it as they wanted to stick to traditional methoRAB like the originals. They are clearly liars as it was over blown by awful CGI.

This is the second franchise now that has been detroyed by Lucas. He clearly has lost the plot. No doubt a sequel will be made to the latest Indy as it will undoubtedly do well due to old fans going to see it. Lets hope they dont make a pigs ear out of that one.

It was a hand puppet.

In fact, the puppeteer smacked his hand and his hand swelled up so much he couldn't take it off. This meant he had to kept the puppet on all day until the scenes were shot, and they had to cut the puppet off his hand at the end of the day. Poor Mr Rancor.

And that there, is my 'Rancor is a hand puppet anecdote'.

He's made his money so can knock out shite.
I've noticed many people with wealth can do stupid things, or look like tits, but doesn't matter to them, they're rich.

Know what you mean - however CGI is great for spaceships or objects like buildings cars etc. where there are nice flat surfaces and no real nuances to the animation that CGI misses but it just doesn't look that good yet for animal lifeforms or humanoiRAB.

A good example of this is Starship Troopers the spaceships look great but the bugs look like CGI.

i sort of agree

WAY too much cgi

the best bits were the old fashioned stunts - the little bits that you could watch over and over, the motorbike chase etc

the worst...those effing cgi monkeys, the cheap obvious green screen on the car chase by the cliff, the OTT ending...

I didn't notice too much crap CGI. And this comes from someone who refuses to acknowledge there were more than 3 Star Wars films and switches off Return of the Jedi as the Death Star explodes.

Except there's too many of them, the screen being filled with explosions and lasers and so on, if anyone was actually confronted with such a situation they'd just crash straight away.

AFAIK the stop motion was test footage, technically the film used a muppet :D, hand puppet for body/face & roRAB for the limbs (just like Kermit - but bigger). They filmed it all at 3X speed so that when shown, it would slow down & look like a lumbering beast.

No doubt to be CGI-ified in the next special edition. ;)

edit: you may be thinking of go-motion, as used in ET for the bikes & in Jedi for... the bikes (speeder variety).

the thing that made the original 3 SO good was the stunts. there were a couple of bits in this that i thought were great (eg you know in the fight in area 51 when he swung on that chain, turned in the air and kicked that russian through the glass...that was all done in one shot, no quick cutting or cgi and it was brilliant). i wanted more of that

though i DID like the joke spieilberg put in at the end - mutt goes to pick up indy's hat and you think 'oh god here we go - the baton being passed for shia to take over the franchise' but then indy snatches it back of him
