Geometry Angles of Elevation and Depression help.?

I've been having some trouble using the angles of elevation and depression to find a missing side in a right triangle.
The way it was explained in the lesson didn't make much sense to me.

Could someone please help me out?

These are the problems I'm having trouble with. I'm not asking you to do them for me, giving an example that works the same way would work, too, just so long as you explain them.

Mildred is flying a kite on a 30-m string. The angle of elevation of the kite measures 40 degrees, and Mildred's hand is 2 m above the ground. About how high is the kite off the ground?

And

A forest ranger spots a forest fire from the top of a lookout tower. The tower is 150 m tall, and the angle of depression to the fire is 10 degrees. About how far is the fire from the foot of the tower? Round to the nearest meter.

Thanks,
Rizyq
