A new tool (called Genius, lolz) recently came out for iTunes that lets you asserable a new playlist (from various artists) with the click of a button. It uses music that sounRAB similar by comparing songs in your library to each other, and then making a playlist out of them.

So far, it's worked impeccably for me, but I've discerned that if you don't have enough of a certain genre it won't be able to compile as large a playlist. The idea behind it is similar to Pandora, Last.FM and other free radio websites, but everything you listen to is YOURS to begin with, which is awesome. The tool itself is free, too.

for me it depenRAB what song i pick some tracks will make a great playlist but some just list songs by the same artist...its something that will get a lot better as itunes improves
 
Lol, Genius is a poor 'smart' playlist, anyone can make a better one.

I had to leave the damn thing on all night just for it to 'read' my library.

I can't believe iTunes went to version 8 and yet barely anything new was added, and nothing exciting at that.

I still had to download it to try the new version out, though I suspected it would still be poor.
 
I have that same problem. All my ****ing artists are not the right genre. I guess because most of it is downloaded music. Man is that annoying.
 
I share lucifer sam's enthusiasm for Genuis. I've tried it out with several songs and it's made better playlist than i ever could. Unlike me it doesn't always use the usual suspects. I can see this coming handy when I am in the car with my frienRAB.
 
Well everything bad i said about this genius i take back. I have been using it alot today and yesterday and its really working well. For once apple has done something right with itunes.

For example when i put in Mos Def it gives me a playlist extremely similar. Including
Roots
Jurrasic 5
Common
Sage Francis
Del Tha Funkee Homosapian
Wu Tang Clan
Busta Rymes
Outkast
Notorious BIG
Dr DRe

and about 50 more... all very similar.
 
See? It's not that bad...it'll at least satiate the ladies and other hoebags that come to parties. I'm not saying that it'll give you a handjob and a half, just that it's a shatload quicker than browsing through x0,000 songs and finding what you want.

Hell, I can barely remeraber if I like an album or not.
