(especially against Asians)? So I was able to get the Quarterback position at the local club football team, we had spring tryouts and the coach decided to give me the position. I am an Asian Indian (India) guy and the coach is an African American man. Unfortunately, my high school does not have a football program (I am a high school senior) so I have to play for a local family center team (that competes with other teams in the state and region, we play during the summer) and to make matters worse, I live in the deep south.
So the guy who I beat out for the Quarterback position was White, the guy was taller than me but the coach decided that I was the better fit. Now the guy's family is upset and his mother yelled at the coach telling him "you are not letting some foreign rat take my son's spot as the Quarterback!". Also, most people who I run into even tell me why my "type" would even want to play football and some tell me to stick to math.
In my 6 miserable years in the deep south, I have had troubles trying to play sports. People would not give me a chance because of my ethnicity and people would often go against me trying to play sports, they expected my "type" to be academically oriented. I will be going off to Yale soon, hope to play football there and hopefully make the NFL one day.
I notice that African Americans and Whites usually play sports in the US. I was wondering, are people in the US racist against Asians trying to play sports or is it just the deep south? Like would a coach elsewhere even let an Asian guy tryout for his football team?
