General questions about Cricket and flashed phone

Hi all - Newb here.

Have been a Sprint customer for years. Time for a new contract, and really don't to pay Sprint's rates for basic service. We generally use phone and text and would have to pay $100+ for two lines to stay with them.

I have been looking at Cricket for a long time, but when you google Cricket, you get a lot of horror stories about the WORST customer service.

One thing that I read that seemed reasonable was that part of the problem w/Cricket is the high-priced, lousy phones. So... your best bet is to flash a phone to Cricket, pay your bill online and hopefully NEVER have to deal w/customer service.

So, being a tightwad, I don't want to pay a ****load for two new phones + service. I have seen a few deals on "new" flashed Palm Treos (700p) on ebay for $80-100. A couple of those and two of the $40-45mo plans and I should be set.

My questions:
1) Am I going to be pleased with Cricket service if I stay mostly in the SA, Austin, San Marcos TX areas? Decent phone = less dropped calls?

2) How easy is it to take fully flashed phones and get a new service and keep my phone nurabers?

3) Will the Palm Treo 700p work well with Cricket service? Should I even consider the 700P? I DON'T CARE about how "cool" a phone is. I just want a solid phone that I can use for Phone/Text/PicMail/Web.

4) suggestions for similar flashed phones? Carriers?

lol its no contract, so just port your nuraber and try it out. you need to see if you're in a AWS market or not. if you are not, then buy the cheapest cricket phones you can find, and activate service and try it. if you are not happy, port out to someone else.

I was thinking that another option is to flash the two LG Rumor phones we have and try it that way. If it works, then I can buy a couple of flashed phones later and switch them.

BTW - how much is the fee for changing phones on Cricket?

 whats up guys and gals im new to the service and need to know if this service works on boost mobile phones? if so how do i set it up.

Since your question has pretty much nothing to do with my post, you could start your own thread instead... That way maybe we could both get our questions answered.

googleme1 this is your warning for thread jacking. create your own thread, AND read the stickies up top.

howtek its usually 15 bucks but merabers of this forum will do it for 5

What is AWS and does that mean that a 700p would not work?

BTW - I am really interested in any suggestions for a similar phone (flashed PDA - +/- $100 range) that will work on Cricket.

You should be good in SA and Austin, As far as San Marcos looks like its good by the coverage map check for your self of the exact location because there seems to the outer part of if has to have roaming. No need for a Triband phone you can get your phone flashed and still use it on cricket. Prices for flashing phones is different in every market you will have to check with your local dealers and like you say if all you use is talk and text. If each phone will be $40 you will be saving about $20 a month, and like you say if your just going to pay your bill every month no need to worry about having to deal with customer service or any issues. And if you still need roaming you can also add that to your account $5 = 30 min roaming $10 = 70 min and $15 = 120 min.
