Gender Communication & Theories - Book Recommendation?

I am looking for a gift for someone who is interested in communication theories, specifically dealing with gender communication theories. Something appropriate for a college level (not too simple, but not terribly convoluted requiring extensive background) would be great. She has taken some basic communication classes and I believe that is what sparked the interest.

I would love to find a fairly unbiased writing that gives equal weight to various theories without being too judgmental. Something that introduces various theories and perspectives regarding those and presents them fairly would be ideal. The idea is not to get something too provocative in either direction, but again, to provide an introduction to the academic side of this field.

Finally, I'm looking for something that is not a textbook, but rather flows well and is engaging.

Any suggestions?
