Gemma Arterton becoming the UK's Megan Fox?

FURIOUS film beauty GEMMA ARTERTON has accused movie bosses of treating her "as a piece of ass".
Gemma, 24, revealed she had been tempted to walk off film sets because of the way she was treated.

The ex-Bond girl said she had read too many scripts in which women languished in the shadows - or were simply there to help the male lead.

Gemma, who also starred in Prince of Persia, added that some people in the film world treated women "like s***".

She said: "I'm looking at working with people that respect me, that don't just see me as a piece of ass."

The timing of her comments is odd - given she wears very little in her latest film Tamara Drewe.

Brit Gemma is seen in a pair of tiny denim hotpants in the movie based on a comic strip.

While she may have a very good point she is running the risk of putting herself out of running for roles and seen as a bit of a joke.
I assume she will be turning down Prince of Persia 2 if it gets made because she will be doing a role that is going to mean she wears little and be a bit of ass again.

Why do so many actors and actresses make the mistake of thinking I've been in something big and successful and now I can start coming out with stupid comments?

I think the difference between Gemma Arteton and Megan Fox is really that Megan Fox really is just a pretty face.

Arteton has a brain and an opinion and apparently isn't afraid to express it.

I have no doubts that Gemma has a brain, but maybe she neeRAB to use it?

She isn't so big a star that she can start comingout with this kind of stuff and not risk losing out because of it. If you look at the career of Helen Mirren. how many not only crap films did she make but also how many did she end up geting her clothes in before she got to where she is now? Helen is in a position here she can say things like this because she is established.
Kate Winslet has an 20 year career about 15 years of it successful to back up her. Gemma has done what? Her first work as an actress is 3 years ago.Her first film Quantum of Solace is 2 years ago. She can't really call herself established to get away with comments like that where the demand for her will over rule and ideas that she may or may not be awkward to work with or come out with something stupid that may affect your film.

This is going back a long way but I remember when actor David Caruso was suddenly named the next big thing on a new shows called NYPD Blue. He quit after one series saying he wants to make films not do TV He blah blah blah and people thought he was full of himself. He made Kiss of Death and it wasn't a hit. He made Jade and it wasn't a hit then his career froze. For the next few years he was doing the odd bit here and there on TV. He's finally a name again thanks to being on CSI. Which again is on TV. What happened to the big I am? TV isn't right for me I'm a film actor etc? You made one series of NYPD Blue, you should have kept your mouth shut mate. Get really well known and established then quit the show and try to make films.

How many people leave soaps for other things, often saying that they have had a meeting about films in Hollywood only to end up back on the soap a few years later. They may do one or two bits but the offers aren't flying their way. You're not as popular and as wanted as you believe you are.

Looking on IMDB the only two things linked with Gemma are both under "in development" the first is In with the Outlaws and the other is Clash of the Titans 2 (oh God!) which hardly says people are banging down her door offereing her stuff thinking she is the next big thing or one to watch. Yes she is beautiful, but beutiful women are a dime a dozen in Hollywood.

Is having a pop at Hollywood who is going to be your employers the smartest move for someone with brains? I don't think so.

Poor Gemma, not

I have no doubts she's a smart girl, she came across as really likable on Jonathon Ross when I saw her but she neeRAB to stop moaning and not start biting the hand that feeRAB her, she's done well for herself out of her looks, she would be wise to remember that.

I seriously think she's being mis-quoted here... This "quote" has been floating around since Clash of the Titans came out, and it pops up whenever her new films come out. I think her intention is that she dosn't want to be the hot female companion in films all the time. Lets look at her 3 biggest films...

- Quantum of Solace = Hot female companion
- Clash of the Titans = Hot female comapnion
- Prince of Persia = Hot female companion

She just fears being typecast, and rightly so. She isnt just a "hot peice of ass", and her preformance in The Dissaperance of Alice Creed and Tess of the D'Urbervilles proves it. But the general public and media will always just see her as the "hot girl", which is unfair.

What this new formation of this quote has missed out is that she has said she didn't mind doing these big films, such as Clash of the Titans, but hopes that by doing these films, in the future she will be able to choose more intimate and deeper films etc. It's all about working your way up the ladder to be able to choose the films you want to do, rather than being the hot female companion forever more.

This counter-attack about her being in those shorts in Tamara Drewe is petty too. It's part of a scene in a movie, which she is playing the lead. Yes, she may be a "hot peice of ass" in the film, but she also plays the title role of an indiependent woman.

Just my two cents as a Gemma fan, but I really do think the media is spinning it.

No matter what she'll always be a mediocre actress! Her voiceovers in Prince of Persia were so annoying, they mess up an already terrible film!! I think it was a mistake for her to in two big stinkers like this and Clash of the Titans. Obviously she will have been paid quite a bit for being in them but they may end up harming her career in the long run.

She's gorgeous but not much else so, unfortunately, she is going to find herself treated like a 'piece of ass' on occasion!

Btw even though she plays the title character in Tamara Drewe it's still not really a lead role, she's not in it that much. The only thing she's really played the lead in is the BBC Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

I thought she was alright in Prince of Persia (i actually didn't mind the film either), but she really was phoning it in on Clash of the Titans, the voiceover was horrendous, but i really can't blame her there as the script was a complete mess, she probably didn't know what she'd signed up for.

Gemma has expressed her dislike of Clash of the Titans, and says that she prefered PoP out of the two. She does not seem to be enthusiastic about returning for the sequel either, but I think her contract says she has too.

And I'm aware that she may not be the main character in Tamara Drewe, but its still the title role. She is also the main charcter and title role in Alice Creed, which if you have not seen, you can't class her as a bad actress. Or at least, many few would.

Gemma can act well and anyone who says she can't is talking out of their arse, unlike Megan Fox...

Oh and Quantum of Solace wasn't her first film role. She has been in at least 2 films before the Bond film.

I stand corrected on her first film. I didn't spot those 3 amongst her TV roles. When one is St Trinians, maybe it is best forgotten. lol

I would say she "gets away with it" more than "she can act." I haven't seen her in Alice Creed but everything I have seen her in has left me indifferent.
She reminRAB me a lot of Catherine Zeta Jones about 20 odd years ago or whenever The Darling BuRAB of May was on TV. Her looks got her noticed, she was hyped as being this shining star that was going to go on to do great things and be the next big British film star to compete with the US leading ladies and it never quite happened.
Just because the UK press hype them up and love them the people that matter Hollywood never quite see them the same way.

That is where I took the link from but it's on various other sites. That is where the danger is. Would Hollywood care what is printed in The Sun or The Daily Mail? Probably not. In all likelihood they wouldn't even hear what she had said. But as it enRAB up all over the place (it's on IMDB with a link to The Sun for example) then it starts to show up on the radar.

Do try and watch Alice Creed, out of all her roles, apart from maybe Tess, its honeslty the only role she's had that a challenge with. I think its unfair to judge someones acting from something like St. Trinians or Clash of the Titans.
