Geena Davis - such a wasted talent

My favourite actress for films such as The Fly, Thelma & Louise, Beetlejuice, Angie, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Accidental Tourist, A League of Their Own. - but since 1996 Long Kiss has only appeared in 4 films (3 Stuart Little movies- one of which is voice only cartoon) and 2009's Accidents Happen which was an Australian indie film. She had such promise and was dropped mainly because of the mega flop Cutthroat Island

She only got paid 7 millions dollars for it though.

and according to imdb

Turned down the role that made famous to Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct (1992).

Turned down the Demi Moore role in Ghost (1990).

Turned down the role that later went to Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs (1991).

Turned down the role that made famous to Sandra Bullock in Speed (1994/I).

Turned down the role that went to Kelly McGillis in The Accused (1988).

Turned down the role of Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction (1987).

Turned down the role of Annie in Sleepless in Seattle (1993).

Turned down the role of Kit de Luca in Pretty Woman (1990).

Turned down the role that later went to Kyra Sedgwick in Singles (1992).

Archery must have it's pull:eek:

Cutthroat Island is probably my all time most underrated movie. Why the world flocked to Pirates Of The Caribbean and stayed away in droves from Cutthroat Island is a mystery to me. Both great jolly pirate romps that are equally as good or bad, depending on your preferences.

Maybe she's not bothered about being really famous? You'd have to really, really want to be famous to put up with that lifestyle. She might be happier under the radar. I hope that's the case, she's seems nice.

It's a shame her career went no where special after T&L. I have often wondered why but I think it must have been her own choice because Susan Surraden sp? really saw her career take off so Geena must have had just as many big offers.

I'm sure I read that she's retired from acting to raise her children.

It was interesting to read the list at the top of the parts she turned down! She must be kicking herself!

There is a saying you are only as famous as your next big hit. It could be something as simple as she dropped off the radar when she had kiRAB so people forgot her combined with the problem of age. As you get older, especially women the roles just aren't there anymore. She's 54 now so she's looking at playing the "mom roles" in most films. Either she isn't going to be interested or people will assume she won't do them or will cost too much.
I don't think that it helped that she is 6ft tall. I think that it may have held her back getting some roles in the same way being 5'11 has sometimes been a problem for Sigourney Weaver. They don't usually like the leading lady taller than the leading man.

It has to be said that fairly recent picures of Geena show her to have become somewhat on the large side. Not uncommon once you reach her age, and are no longer looking for work in the public eye. But she used to be very good looking, and to see her let herself go like that is a bit sad.

Same goes for Kirstie Alley.

But if Geena's happy, then that's good. Lots of people don't like the pressure or ignomy that fame brings.
