Gears of War 2 Horde - Pausing?

In this day with the Double XP and all-tickers round when I try pausing everything pauses too. So when I pause the game (in Xbox Live) the players don't keep on going or running... the outer screen turns grey and the players stop! Just like if you were pausing on a campaign or if you were playing with all NPCs. Is this normal..?
