I have a Gateway Solo 5300 laptop that freezes completely after being on for about an hour. It doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard input and only turns off if I hold down the power key for 30 seconds. I've eliminated the possibility of a virus because I've reinstalled windows and the same problem occurs, So I'm pretty sure it is a hardware problem. This is what I've tried so far:
1. Reinstalling Windows XP Pro SP3 with Microsoft Security Essentials.
2. Internal cleaning of motherboard and fan
3. USB cooling pad
4. New thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink
5. IBM-Hitachi Drive Fitness test (passes quick, advanced, and exersizer), although I'm not entirely convinced it isn't the HD.
The next step I was going to try is a bootable RAM test (like http://www.memtest86.com/). I've already removed the wireless card, but not the DVD. Are there any other suggestions?
