Gassy

I have been dating my boyfriend for over 6 months. I'd say, for the past three months or so I've developed a gas problem.
Whenever I go to visit him (which can be for a whole weekend) I get gas. We could be laying on the couch and I get an urge to expel gas. I don't know if he can smell it. I can't. But it's annoying. And he has told me that I fart in my sleep, which is soooo embarassing. What can be causing this? I have tried Gas-Ex with no luck. Also tried Lactaid, thinking it was a lactose intolerance. Still no luck. Please help.

Hi, I do have the same problem and it's become a source of jokes in my family. But it's terrible if I'm in a crowded place or in a car full of people...and had to hold it in. I read up on it......I'm not sure if the Gas-Ex and Lactaid you took were effective for flatulance....

According to what I read there are 3 kinds of gas problem :
-Belching [ the release of swallowed air from the stomach]
-Bloating [abdominal]
-Rectal gas [flatulence]....our problem !!

Here's the explanation about flatulence :

Rectal Gas
The colon has literally hundreds of different bacteria growing within it. These bacteria live peacefully in our bowel and provide certain positive health benefits to the body. Most bacteria in the colon are harmless and cause no problems. These bacteria rely on the indigestible food we eat for their own nutrition. Certain foods are more likely to cause certain bacteria to thrive. Some of these bacteria are called "gas formers." They generate gases such as hydrogen and methane. As much as 80 to 90 percent of rectal gas (flatulence) is formed by bacteria. Gas forming bacteria generally feed on certain carbohydrates and sugars. So, if these carbohydrates are reduced or eliminated from the diet, rectal gas can usually be significantly reduced. Individual response to certain foods is also a factor in producing rectal gas. For instance, two people can eat the same amount of the same carbohydrate. One forms large amounts of rectal gas, while the other experiences little or none.

I guess from now on we have to observe/think about those carbs and sugars....
Did you eat somethings these last 3 months that you didn't usually eat before?
Ok, we've got some thinking back to do....maybe got to sit and jot those food down, and later try to eliminate them one by one to see the result...but we shouldn't eat less ! we don't want other problems to deal with.....
Ok,I hope we stop our emmissions and noises soon !!

Hi Ya-all,
These types of posts make me laugh (in a good way) and want to respond.
I know a lot of people with gassy problems so have a real sense of humor about it!
You might try eliminating dairy completely to see if that helps.
Or taking a digestive enzyme with each meal.
Or, if you have periodic either constipation OR diarrehea, that is probably causing your symptoms, so you have to get that under control (find out what's causing it, etc.)
Good luck and day

Hi,
I have since bought the pills you buy and eat just before eating beans and they seem to have worked. I think it's got to do with all the whole wheat stuff I've been eating since I started dating him. I grew up on not-so-nutritional stuff like white bread.
Thanks for your input!

If you find you're still having some trouble you might want to look up aerophagia, the swallowing of air. It can be done subconsciously in times of excitement, stress or nervousness.
