The guy I know at Newport Beach Ducati was able to get Ducati to replace one. I think I will just take it there and give it a shot. If not the I will just leave it as is or go Carbon Fiber or the aluminum tank Ducati now has. I can even get the tank a little larger so I can ride farther than the end of my street before the fuel light goes on. LOL.
 
,,,,,When gas level's are low and in the sun or even on a warm days ride's presure is vented out but when blocked it builds up causing it to act as a gas bomb,change the cap,keep the tank full. The tank holds the fuel only ! whats making it bulge-is"Pressure" we know that,but where,the cap's not venting,simple mechanics.As for Ethonal fuel is rubbish,again all fuel's expands,ALL FUEL'S. Try it ,replace the cap,or email Ducati in Italy, i have in the past for my bike...happy holidays to all of you guys.
 
Nova my Ducati Accessories book is of 2005 but they do show that filler plugs can be ordered. A-Filler plug for standard tank. B-Light alloy fuel plug w/ carbon frame,ideal for use in the racetrack.These i show for the 749/999/916/996/998 . I know where to get oem and none oem for my bike make ST3-S-ABS but look around or your dealer,they got updated books,good luck.
